A 19-year-old based in Bangalore has developed a social media app; exclusive interaction


Social media platforms play an important role in people’s lives. These platforms help users keep in touch with their friends and find new ones. In the race to become the best apps, companies are coming up with cool features and making it easier for users to use social media apps. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Telegram, and many more are primarily based in the US, but it looks like the Indian developers are coming up with some cool social media apps that could make your life easier.

One of those apps is Noogah, developed by Nakshatra, a 19-year-old girl and NIFT student based in Bangalore, who started with the vision of creating a platform that streamlines the exchange of views. She witnessed the power of opinions, she saw the effect of those opinions changing decision-making in the nation’s landscape, and she believed that a platform that eliminates social media clutter can empower to these opinions and thus was born noo-gah!

We interacted with Nakshatra Sanjai and Sanjai Velayudhan the co-founder of Noogah and Asked them a few questions regarding the app and how it is different from popular social media apps. Here is the question we asked and its answers to all those questions.

How does the noo-gah algorithm work! ?

The app is structured so that with each activity members earn GEMs. Whether it’s like, share, comment on anything, one can accumulate GEMs that will help to level up. Depending on the type of engagement on member profiles and posts, likes, video comments, etc., the content will appear on the trending page. With each level, the rate of accumulation of GEMs also increases. These are just a few ways a member can optimize and grow their profile and followers.

noo-gah! is proudly the only fully “gamified” social media platform with social badges and a built-in loyalty rewards structure. Later, we aspire to create an exchange catalog that GEMs can be exchanged for.

Does noo-gah! plan to give blue check marks, if so how do you check profiles?

We see people on Instagram, Twitter, etc. dying to be verified, as this seems like the final step in aspiring to become an influencer. We wanted to knock the blue tick off its high pedestal. This is why we have introduced “recognition levels” based on the popularity of the content. Based on Profile / Post-Engagement / Popularity, Tier or Tier, etc., members start with a colored check mark based on their progress. The most important thing is that these ticks are issued entirely based on the rules engine in the backend.

While we would have liked to have eliminated them, we recognize that blue ticks are an important factor that helps identify the authenticity of a celebrity profile. So, noo-gah! issue blue ticks or verification ticks based on strict criteria.

Thus, “celebrities” and non-celebrities will have a check mark against their profile.

Will the text ever be integrated into noo-gah! or will it still be a video-only social network?

To noo-gah! We want people to come to the fore and express themselves freely. We believe that a video is the most efficient way to do this. Text response is only allowed as a response to a video. So, we don’t think we would need the addition of text / picture messages. noo-gah! believes that anonymity reduces the authenticity of content. There will be mainly two member segments on noo-gah! – opinion leaders and opinion followers. The latter will obviously be much more numerous than the former.

What are the privacy laws implemented by noo-gah! protect the consumer? Does noo-gah! comply with the new IT laws? Is it end-to-end encrypted?

noo-gah! fully complies with the government’s new computer laws. In fact, no matter what country we operate in, we will obey the law of the land.

Why would people prefer noo-gah to Facebook and Instagram?

While there is a wide range of options available when it comes to social media, what we lack today is a platform dedicated to opinions, thoughts, and ideas. As a platform, we encourage credible and consistent content rather than frivolity. While there is opinion-driven and thought-provoking content on platforms like Instagram, Facebook, etc., it is drowning in an ocean of digital data. We want people to be able to add value to their social life every time they use noo-gah! This is why we firmly believe that noo-gah! is the ideal platform for opinion leaders and change agents.

What are your extension projects?

The app is currently available in India and the Middle East region. The first months for the application is a study phase for all of us. Once we have reached our established KPIs, we aim to expand globally.
