Bhupendra Patel launches Gujarati version of Indian microblogging site Koo

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Wednesday launched the Gujarati version of the multilingual Indian micro-blogging site “Koo”, which allows people to share content and connect with others using their native languages.

The made in India microblogging site aims to provide tools for people to connect and express their opinions in their language, its co-founder Mayank Bidawatka told PTI here after the launch event in the capital Gandhinagar.

“We started because a lot of social platforms used by Indians are mostly in English. Ninety percent of our country does not speak English, and these users are logging on now. When many of those logged in users speak a native. Indian languages, they are looking for content in that Indian language, ”Bidawatka said.

The Koo platform provides tools through which these users, now online in large numbers, can speak, write, record audio or video in their own native language and submit it, he said.

“People who want to connect with you in their language will find you on the app and start following you,” he said.

The chief minister, who has been active on Koo for over a month now, said Gujarati must assume a prominent position on social media platforms.

The people of Gujarat should be encouraged to express themselves freely, share their thoughts and conduct online conversations in their native language, he said in a statement released by the microblogging app.

With the launch of Gujarati, Koo is now available in 10 languages, the others being Hindi, Marathi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Assamese, Punjabi, Bengali and English. In the future, the platform will expand to 22 Indian languages, Bidawatka said.

“Several politicians and celebrities are on Koo. We have almost 5,000 eminence accounts, these are accounts with a check mark, verified handles,” he said.

The tool allows creators of content in languages ​​other than English to easily share and connect. “We have created the platform that allows you to express yourself in Hindi and meet other people who speak Hindi, and we do that in 10 different languages,” he said.

Recently, the rival Twitter app hit the 20 million download milestone since its launch in March 2020, and is expected to reach 100 million downloads within the next year, Bidawatka said.

The platform’s translation function enables real-time translation of a message into a multitude of Indian languages, in order to improve reach and further attract the user, he said.
