Meta Brings Venues App to Leading Social Virtual Reality Platform Horizon Worlds, CIO News, ET CIO

San Francisco: Meta announced the integration of Horizon Venues – a dedicated app for attending live virtual reality events – with its leading social virtual reality platform Horizon Worlds. People over the age of 18 in the United States and Canada who have access to Horizon Worlds on Quest 2 will be able to access Venues programming in the Horizon Worlds app on June 6.

“If you are not in the United States or Canada, are 1317 years old, and/or are on Quest 1, you will lose access to Venues programming when the standalone Venues app goes away on June 6, even if you have always be able to catch highlights and replays of Venues events on Oculus TV,” Meta said in a statement.

Horizon Worlds is a social virtual reality experience where you can discover new places with friends, create your own unique worlds, and form teams to compete in action-packed games.

Starting June 6, people will be able to catch their favorite big-name shows — from live sporting events to concerts by today’s hit artists and beyond — from Horizon Worlds.

“We plan to expand access to Horizon Worlds to more countries this summer, so even more people can create their own worlds, make new friends in virtual reality, and enjoy our range of Venues in Horizon programming. Worlds,” the company said.

The Horizon Worlds social metaverse platform is currently only available on the company’s Quest VR headsets.

Meta (formerly Facebook) is working on four new virtual reality (VR) and mixed reality (MR) headsets that the company will launch by 2024.
